چکیده
Context It is essential to assess the suitable habitat for elephants in order mitigate effects of forest fragmentation on conservation.Aims This study aimed estimate potential habitats Sumatran fragmented Padang Sugihan wildlife reserve area southern Sumatra, Indonesia. Methods The suitability was analyzed using some environmental factors such as slope, elevation, land cover, distance rivers, and agricultural areas. remote sensing, geographic information system (GIS), MaxEnt model were used determine elephants. Results revealed areas evenly distributed throughout area, with composition being (45%), highly (5%), less (50%). most found dense (gelam or Melaleuca cajuputi forest), which affected by river adjacency, whereas resulted constrained forested areas. Conclusions As a whole, estimation elephant sensing GIS may guide development conservation strategies this region.

Leaf size indices and structure of the peat swamp forest
Leaf size indices of the tree species in the peatland of Agusan del Sur in Mindanao in Philippines was examined to deduce the variation of forest structure and observed forest zonation. Using raunkiaer and webb’s leaf size classification, the leaf morphometrics of seven tree species consistently found on the established sampling plots were determined. The species includes Ternstroemia phi...
متن کاملForest Fire Damage Estimation Using Remote Sensing and GIS
Forest fires have been causing serious damages and threats in Turkey especially over Aegean and Mediterranean Regions. Damage assessment as the result of a forest fire occurred on 10th August 2009 in Seferihisar district of Izmir, Turkey was conducted in this study. SPOT 4 images obtained before (01.08.2008) and after (31.08.2009) the fire were used in this study. Several digital image processi...
متن کاملForest Fire Potential Modeling and Simulation of its Extension Using Remote Sensing Data and GIS: (A Protected Area of Arasbaran)
Forest fire models are generally used in different aspects of fire management and are helpful in understanding and prediction of fire behavior. Forest fires cause a significant damage for public property by destroying a large tract of forest. This helps fire fighters to focus on an area with greater risk and to develop better substructure for fire fighter training and ultimately to plan fire-f...
متن کاملHabitat Modelling for Conservation Analysis Using GIS and Remote Sensing in Lantau Island, Hong Kong
Knowledge of spatial distribution of faunal species is crucial to prioritize conservation resources. While vulnerable or endangered species are usually well-protected, common species were always overlooked. Traditional survey represented species distribution by discrete points, which is precise but often limited in applicability for conservation analysis. This study combined remote sensing; geo...
متن کاملMulti-scale Forest Habitat Monitoring Using Remote Sensing Data
Remote sensing imagery and advanced image analysis methods show high potential for monitoring forest habitat issues. The objective of this paper is to provide ready-to-use information on forest habitats by conducting a multi-scale approach for the delineation of such, and the assessment of their conservation status on multi-spectral satellite imagery of high and very high spatial resolution, as...
